With the latest deadline for Mass 201 CMR 17 looming on March 1st 2010, businesses that own, license, store, or maintain the personal information of Massachusetts residents need to assess their environments for readiness. The regulation is aimed at any business—regardless of where that business is located—that touches a Massachusetts resident’s personal information. While this is a call to action to help proactively protect Massachusetts residents’ personal information, it has far reaching impacts for businesses that handle personal information and may set the bar for other states or even federal adoption.
